Refund & Cancellation Policy
Backhouse Press provides publishing-related products, professional editorial services, consultations, coaching, workshops and writing programs. Because these offerings differ in nature, refund and cancellation conditions may vary by service.
This policy applies unless different terms are clearly stated at the time of purchase or contained in a separate written agreement.
1.
Editorial Services
Editorial projects require Backhouse Press to reserve substantial time in advance.
A deposit may be required to secure a client's place in the project schedule. Once work has commenced, the deposit is non-refundable.
If an editorial-services agreement is terminated after work has commenced, the client is responsible for payment for all services performed and deliverables prepared up to the effective date of termination. Future payments will be handled according to the terms of the applicable client agreement.
Where a separate signed agreement applies to a project, the cancellation, termination and payment provisions of that agreement govern the engagement.
Nothing in this policy limits any rights or remedies available under applicable consumer-protection law.
2
Consultations and Coaching
Appointments may be rescheduled or cancelled with at least 48 hours' notice.
Cancellations or missed appointments with less than 48 hours' notice may be non-refundable, except in exceptional circumstances or where otherwise required by law.
3
The Quiet Draft, Workshops and Programs
Cancellation and refund conditions for The Quiet Draft, workshops, courses and other programs will be clearly stated on the applicable registration or purchase page.
If Backhouse Press cancels a paid program, participants will be offered an appropriate refund for the cancelled program or, where available and agreed upon, transfer to another date or program.
4
Books and Physical Products
Books purchased through independent retailers, Amazon, bookstores, distributors or other third-party sellers are subject to the refund and return policies of the retailer from which they were purchased.
For products purchased directly from Backhouse Press, the applicable return and refund conditions will be disclosed at the time of purchase.
5
Digital Products
Because digital products can generally be accessed immediately, digital purchases may be non-refundable once the product has been delivered or accessed, subject always to rights available under applicable consumer-protection law.
Any applicable refund conditions will be disclosed before purchase.
6
Contest and Prize Entry Fees
The Dinah Marshall Backhouse Prize for Short Fiction will have separate Official Rules when launched.
Entry fees, eligibility, withdrawal, cancellation, refunds, publication rights and related conditions will be governed by those rules rather than this general policy.
7
Statutory Consumer Rights
Nothing in this policy removes or restricts any rights or remedies available under applicable consumer-protection legislation.
